About Paul Leggett:

Paul Leggett is a professional wildfowl carver whose love of the birds, most notably waterfowl, was nurtured at an early age .He became interested in all different species of ducks by hunting in the many swamps and marshes of eastern Ontario.

By photographing the wildfowl, Paul was able to capture the intricate beauty of these birds. Paul also became a taxidermist, which allowed him to preserve the ducks' natural beauty forever He has kept live ducks to aid him in his relentless pursuit of perfection. “Having an aviary allows me to watch the many different species of ducks at anytime of the year. But more importantly it gives me the added edge of seeing the individual species ‘personalities'. This is crucial to anatomical clarity in carving.

Having carved professionally for 20 plus years, Paul has enjoyed success with his competitive decoys. He carves everything from miniature hunting decoy replicas, life-size “gunners”, “slicks”, to miniature and life-size decorative (this being the highest form of this art). Paul describes his approach to this art form as ‘hyper-realism'. “I draw from my many years as a waterfowl admirer, taxidermist and aviculturalist to execute as near a perfect piece for each individual species that I work on.
